Providing Shelter for the People

The housing sector also received a boost during Chief Godswill Akpabio’s eight years tenure as governor. In keeping with his promise to provide modern and affordable houses to the people of the state, his administration constructed 2400 housing units across the three senatorial districts of the state. This is in addition to the provision of revolving loans, through the Staff Housing Scheme Loans board, to civil servants to build their own houses, with a minimal contribution of only 10 per cent to the scheme. Government also embarked on the construction of one security estate in each of the 31 local government areas of the state

Other major achievements in this sector include:

  • Building of 310 prime units mini estates at 10 per local government area for council officials.
  • Construction of Ikot Ekpene Federal Prisons and Rehabilitation Centre.
  • Construction of Akpan Andem Market Phase II
  • Rehabilitation of Government Guest House in Uyo.
  • Construction of Police Secondary School and Mobile Police Base in Essien Udim Local Government Area.
  • Construction of a new ultra-modern Banquet Hall within the Government House complex.
  • Completion of 4 Point by Sheraton 230 rooms hotel complex in Ikot Ekpene.
